Repurposing shoes and clothing to provide relief and opportunity in Liberia.
Thousands of usable old clothes are destroyed or drop-in bins every year that could easily be reprocessed into second hand for the purpose of redistribution to vulnerable communities who are in need. This program is setup to collect clothes and shoes which will be processed, sorted and given value.
Every day children are prevented from attending school, walking is the primary mode of transportation in most rural communities in Liberia. The lack of shoes also keeps children out of school leaving them without an education, thereby contributing to the continuing the cycle of poverty which undermine the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Our clothing and shoes collection approach is primarily based on our motivation and desire to come up with solutions to the social challenges which are faced by vulnerable populations in Liberia. However, we can help to ensure that worn clothes don’t end up in garbage but encourages people to donate or drop off unwanted clothing and footgear at various designated collection boxes for clearing by our team of volunteers.
Our program mission is to provide relief opportunities through the distribution of clothing and shoes to selected communities based on our need assessment.
Volunteers/interns will work with our local team to conduct need assessment and the following below:
Creating flyers, posters for project awareness in communities
Creating a database for donors
Making calls for possible donation
Collection of Clothes and Shoes
Sorting clothing and shoes
Reconditioning of clothing and shoes (sawing of clothes and shoes and etc.)
Washing of clothing
Ironing of clothing
Packaging of clothing and footwear
Team meeting for distribution of items to vulnerable communities or disaster relief
This program is for both individuals and groups.
